SPORTMITTELSCHULE SMS10

As part of the COLORS MATTER course series at the Technical University Vienna, architecture students led by Anja Aichinger developed a color concept for the auditorium of the BiB Lab partner school Sportmittelschule SMS10 and finally implemented it together with the BiB-Lab-team and pupils in summer semester 2023.

The starting point for the color scheme was the school’s turquoise-blue logo. Based on this shade and the complementary color orange, a mix series was developed in order to create a wide range of harmonious warm and cool nuances.
The movement zone is accompanied by a dynamic landscape of shapes on the walls. The color triangles overlap towards the bottom to darker mixed colors and thus create spatiality.

In the central area, a floor-to-ceiling color scheme on the walls emphasizes the livability of the space. The different uses are supported by different color moods: The zone for concentrated learning and reading as well as confidential discussions is kept in a cool shade of blue. In the middle area, calm shades of green and beige are used for chilling out with friends. Towards the buffet the active zone for play and communication follows with warm orange tones. The three areas are also marked by ceiling panels in matching colors.

The end wall of the corridor is emphasized by a strong orange tone, which on the one hand highlights the location of the head office and thus facilitates orientation. On the other hand, this also has a positive effect on the room proportions and visually shortens the long corridor.
